student journalist at the university of minnesota

About

I am a student journalist at the University of Minnesota, born in Malaysia and raised in the Twin Cities area. My journalism career began at Eden Prairie High School (EPHS) as a staff member for the yearbook and as a reporter/anchor for Eagle News Network, the official news network of EPHS. I was also a part of an unofficial, extracurricular news publication at my high school known as The Student Globe in addition to co-leading an extracurricular photography club. After entering college, I became a content creator for the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts, where I wrote articles about faculty who have made a lasting impact on the communities they teach. In summer 2022, I interned at The Minnesota Daily (UMN's campus-wide news outlet) as a university administration reporter before becoming a campus activities reporter in fall 2022, where I remain today. In late 2023, I became a reporter intern for the St. Anthony Park Bugle, a print newspaper serving the communities of suburban St. Paul.

Why journalism?

From a young age, I have always had a passion for writing. I would ask for journals for my birthday and have a growing collection of journals, where I would write about the most random topics or about my life.In 6th grade, my teacher encouraged us to come to class with a current event to share - an event in the world and that was newsworthy. From there, I started watching television news programming and developed a love for storytelling, which I have incorporated with my passion for writing.
